If you’re scared of dying, would you trade places with Mohammed?

Mohammed himself; he said, “By Allah, even though I am the Apostle of Allah, yet I do not know what Allah will do to me [in reference to the Last Judgment]” (Hadith, Bukhari, Vol. V, no. 266).

In fact, Mohammed was terrified of Judgment Day (Hadith, Bukhari, Vol. II, no. 167).

Even though Mohammed was terrified of judgment day, you don’t need to be.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…. (1 Timothy 1:15)

He saved sinners by taking on himself the punishment that we deserved…

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:6)

If you repent of your sins and call on him, he will save you and give you the gift of eternal life.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved (Acts 16:31)

Have you heard about the miserable, dying man who got eternal life instantly without doing any religious works?

Here’s the story…

When Jesus was crucified there were a couple of criminals who also met the same fate.

“And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:39–43.)

What’s important to notice here is that this man didn’t have time to perform any religious works. He couldn’t get baptized. He couldn’t do works of charity. He couldn’t give money. He couldn’t feed the hungry or clothe the poor. In fact, the soldiers were going to come shortly and break his legs so that he would suffocate. This man had absolutely no hope.

But he turned to the one who would give him hope––the Lord Jesus Christ.

And in spite of all that that man ever did, in spite of all his sins, some of which he was being crucified for, this man received everlasting life as a free gift from the only one who could provide it.

What about you? Have you called upon the only one who can give you eternal life?

If you fell overboard in the deep blue sea, how would you save yourself?

“It’s all about trusting, not trying”

Every religion in the world instructs dying and drowning men, women, and young people to swim. Basically telling you that if you swim hard enough and long enough, maybe you’ll make it to the shores of eternal life.

But their instructions will never give you any assurance, not now, not at the point of death, not even after death (think purgatory or reincarnation).

But the Bible throws you a lifeline. The Bible says…

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…” (1 Timothy 1:15)

What could be plainer and what could be easier than to grab that lifeline?

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead,
thou shalt be saved.
(Romans 10:9)

So if you, like the drowning man, are asking “What must I do to be saved?” the answer is easy…

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,  and thou shalt be saved (Acts 16:31)

The Lord Jesus Christ is alive, and the great thing is that he wants a relationship with you

And you can have a relationship with him by turning from your sins and trusting him to save you. Not by trying to DO it yourself, as recommended by the religions of the world.

You need a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, not a religion.

Getting born again happens once.

It’s like getting married. It’s a one-time event. You can look back and remember the day.

You give your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ, and he gives his heart to you. You become one with him and he will never leave you nor forsake you. You can receive Jesus Christ right now and have absolute assurance of eternal life even if you were to die tonight or three weeks from now or thirty years from now.

Admit to him that you are a helpless sinner and that you’ll quit trusting in your own righteousness and religious works.

Repent and be willing to turn away from your sins. The Lord will help you do this.

Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died to pay the price for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead.

Call out to him now. You can use your own words or pray something like this:

Lord Jesus, I confess that I have sinned against you in the way I have lived my life. I am truly sorry and I want to turn from my sin and follow you. I believe that you died in my place and that your sacrifice was enough to pay the price for all my sins. I give my life to you right now. Lord, please take control of every area of my life. I receive salvation now, according to your promise, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen

Salvation at the point of a sword––in the Bible

But it’s not like you think.

The Bible tells about a man who was on the brink of suicide. He was ready to fall on his own sword. That’s because he thought his prisoners had escaped.

Here’s what happened, right from the pages of the Bible:

He was a guard in the Roman prison system 2,000 years ago. And he knew it would be better to kill himself rather than allow himself to be tortured and then killed, which would’ve been his punishment for letting prisoners escape.

And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (Acts 16:25–32)

The title of this post is “salvation at the point of a sword.” I use that phrase because some religions have gained converts by the thousands literally “at the point of a sword.” No one got to make up their own mind, no one got a chance to investigate or asked questions; they just had to convert or be killed.

That’s not the way it’s supposed to be, according to the Lord Jesus Christ. Although he came to give his life as a ransom and to give eternal life to as many as would come to him, he never forced salvation down anyone’s throat.

The Scripture says that…

He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. (John 1:11–12)

pi_3Many of his own people did not “receive” him as Messiah because they were looking for a King who would bring peace to the Jewish nation. What they missed was the fact that the Messiah did bring peace. He brought peace between God and man.

What was the controversy between God and man? That’s easy. The Scriptures say that we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. It is our sins that have separated us from God, and that is the problem the Lord Jesus Christ came to resolve.

Scripture says that he was made to be sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God in him. As you can see by the illustration, all our sins were laid on him and then he was punished as if he were the guilty party.

Scripture also says that he was tempted in all points like as we are yet he never sinned. He personally never committed any sins. That makes him different than any man, woman, or child that ever walked the face of the earth.

And that’s why the death of one righteous man can count for the sins of all men. He is the only one qualified to be the Savior of the world.

I’m thankful he came. I no longer fear death because there is no controversy between me and God. The controversy of my sins before a holy God has been taken out of the way because all those sins were laid on the Lord Jesus Christ and he suffered in my stead.

He died in your place, too, dear reader.

But unlike many other religions, he doesn’t stuff it down your throat. He leaves it up to you.

And he invites you to come to him…

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

If you believe that the Lord Jesus Christ came from God, that he died according to the Scriptures and is raised from the dead, and you want to be one with him, then come to him. For he said…

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me;
and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. (John 6:37)

Call on him while you may…
